Jerry Nelson began his career in accounting in Houston working for Tennessee Gas, later Tenneco. His corporate experience ended when he joined the private accounting firm of Davis and Mosher in Pasadena, Texas. He quickly became a junior partner, and the name changed to Davis, Mosher, and Nelson CPAs.
In 1969 two very young children prompted him to search for a friendlier environment for their development, and Tyler offered that environment.
Upon arriving in Tyler, Jerry worked for a public accounting firm; then transferred to private industry, working with Clanahan Construction, where he gained valuable experience in construction—working with bonding agents, insurance agents, and other people representing the construction industry.
When the company changed ownership in 1979, Jerry established his own CPA firm in downtown Tyler.
For the past 38 years, Jerry has enjoyed serving his clients, a diversified group engaged in construction, oil and gas, medicine, and a wide range of other enterprises.
Jerry has served as president on the Historic Tyler and East Texas Food Bank board of directors. He has also served on the board of directors for Heritage Land Bank. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants, East Texas Chapter of the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants, and the East Texas Estate Planning Council.
Jerry and his wife, Shari, have 2 children and 7 grandchildren.
